Try Canyoning and
Trekking in Vorarlberg, Austria
If you enjoy adventure, adrenaline and beautiful nature, book a
trip to Vorarlberg, Austria. The Alps are renowned for snow slopes and winter
fun, but what many people don't know is that Vorarlberg is the perfect place
for a summer adventure. The mountains are excellent for walking, mountain
biking and climbing, but canyoning is one of the unique things to do in Vorarlberg
in summer.
It was my first time and I was a bit afraid of the abseil of 12
meters, the rock sliding and jumping, but I loved it at the end. I could do it
in a heartbeat all over again. In Merlin's World, a section of the Kolbelach
River, we spent 3 hours canyoning. You must have a guide to this adventure,
whether it's your first time or if you have plenty of experience, the river has
different levels of difficulty and a good guide will help you to have fun from
start to finish while keeping you safe. The water there was pretty cold, even
during summer, but the drysuit and all the exercises you gonna do in the water
will keep you warm during the whole expedition.
If
you are planning a trip to Austria, add canyoning to your itinerary and enjoy
all the cool things to do in Vorarlberg in summer.
Hike Around
Postcard Perfect Lakes in Switzerland
Switzerland is a wonderful place to visit throughout the year.
It is a perfect winter destination as well as a summer destination because you
can go for great walks and hop on one of the lovely mountain lakes. One of the
most beautiful walks to take and you will stumble on such a breathtaking
mountain lake is in Flims (Graubünden canton). Actually, you have two
incredible lakes, one of the most beautiful in all Switzerland. and this hike
roves that it does not have to be the hardest climb to enjoy amazing views.
But
let's start with the facts: you can start your walk either from the top or from
the bottom –if you want to walk for more than 90 minutes (without the stops), I
recommend walking up and down. It takes only two minutes and you'll find one of
the most beautiful lakes–Lake Cauma.
If you prefer to dip first in the water, take the opportunity at
Lake Cauma. But keep walking down –so you can see the impressive Rhine Gorge
and another intensely colored lake, Lake Cresta (where you can also swim).
Although you have an amazing scenery and several amazing attractions along the
walk, the walk itself is quite easy (especially if you just walk down) and
takes less than 120 minutes (without all the stops).
How to get there: If you are staying in Zurich, you can do it as
a day trip.
Hit the Waves and
Go Surfing in Peniche, Portugal
Portugal has become one of Europe's most popular destinations in
the past year, and this has a number of reasons. In particular, Lisbon, the
capital of Portugal, is by far the most picturesque, chilled and beautiful town
in the whole continent. There is more in the country, however, which makes it a
dream destination.
In Portugal our favorite area is right on the beach. The small
village of Peniche is the surfing mecca of Portugal and knows how to have
dreamy sunsets, fantastic houses and delicious food that will blow you off.
Every time we go to Peniche, we actually spend most of our days surfing on
water. Since we are not the biggest surfing experts, we need these nice
beginner beaches with smooth waves, big boards and smiles. Well, Baleal, an
even smaller village right next to Peniche, is one of those places. We come
here, rent out some boards, hit the waves and have enormous fun.
After that, we hang out in one of the many
bars and restaurants right on the beach and just enjoy the sea view, watch
other surfers and enjoy a typical Portuguese galao, which is milk coffee.
Baleal and Peniche are those places that give us a lot of energy because they
are calm and easy to walk, but they are still full of things. Come back for
sure, always!
Go White Whater
Rafting in Durmitor National Park, Montenegro
If you’re into some adventure and you want to travel a bit off
the beaten path in Europe, you can’t miss the wild northeast of Montenegro,
where you’ll find Durmitor National Park and Tara River Canyon. Durmitor
National Parkis a place of extreme beauty, part of the Dinaric Alps range that
runs through the west coast of the Balkan Peninsula.
You will find some of the most beautiful views you can imagine
and the highest peak of the National Park, Bobotov Kuk, is a must for any
serious walker. Those who are looking for an adrenaline hit will love the Tara
River Canyon, the deepest canyon in Europe and the world's second largest
canyon after the Grand Canyon. If you are in a high - octane adventure, try
rafting the river down the river Tara, where a local guide will expertly
navigate you through crazy rapids in the middle of one of the greatest beautiful
canyons you’ve ever laid your eyes on.
Bring a dry bag for your belongings and
leave any valuable items behind and don't bring your phone or camera unless
it's waterproof( this is a job for GoPros!) or if you have steel nerves, you
can even jump off the Tara Bridge, one of the most beautiful bridges in the
world!
Train for your Next
Marathon on Margaret Island, Hungary
If you run far, nothing can be better than a summer spent on
Margaret Island! This small Hungarian island, part of Budapest's capital, is
located right in the middle of the Danube River. Margaret Island or Margit-sziget,
as it is known locally, is only 2,5 kilometers long and 500 meters wide, but is
the perfect place for an aspiring marathon.
There is a bright red running strip that runs along the island's
edges and even has kilometers of distance marks for serious runners. This
rubber - coated running track is for runners only, as there is a separate
walking track for casual walkers. The route is a beautiful route that gives you
a calm view of the banks of the river and the views of Pest and Buda by the banks
of the Danube. Most of the island is free of vehicles, but there are buggies
and cycles and a mini-bus that can be used for those who cannot walk.
Margaret Island also has an enormous Nike
Running Club that can add to runners ' motivation. If you don't run, you can
enjoy the musical fountains at the island's entrance, leave your hair in the
Palatinus water park, explore the Japanese Garden and see the zoo deer.
Sail around
Stockholm Archipelago, Sweden
Summer in Sweden is relatively short, so don't miss every
opportunity to catch some sun. There is no better way to enjoy it in the most
luxurious way –by sailing around the amazing Stockholm Archipelago's
picturesque shores. It is made up of more than 30,000 islands and falls under
the spell of the wizard during warm months: sparkling water, smart trees and
golden sun. Not surprisingly, Swedish elite party on carefree weekends.
The journey begins in the early morning from the port of
Waxholm, which is still abandoned. The yacht glides smoothly along the water,
passing through the old fortifications and sometimes a small ferry. Depending
on your preferences, you can be a pampered passenger who enjoys majestic views
when it's too hot and tastes Swedish cuisine coupled with a glass of sparkling
wine. Alternatively, you can become a day's sea dog and try to navigate a
48-foot yacht. Taking control of this sparkling beauty feels empowering and
exhilarating.
The
wind dies down at midday, so it's time for a well-deserved lunch. Tasting the
Swedish meatballs as local people eat them with a green salad and a little
lingonberry sauce is a unique experience. You could not stop eating. Don't
worry about that. Choose an island for an afternoon walk or go for a swim
session on the deck of the yacht.
The second half of the day is the time to
visit. The many islands float by. Old fortifications and colorful towns provide
the perfect background to a selfie. Summer days in this part of the world are
endless, so you get back to the harbor while the sun shines. Instead of going
back to Stockholm immediately, have a beer at the harbor or a cocktail or
perhaps a dinner at the restaurant in Hamnkrogen watching the Waxholm ferries
from your table.
Hike Cinque Terre
in Italy
Cinque Terre is a popular classic Italian destination. Few
locations in the world are as perfect as Cinque Terre 's five villages. The
food and colorful small houses, the charming shops and the beautiful views are
some of the reasons why you should go here.
But my best advice is to walk between villages. These are old
walking trails, all of which offer panoramic views and quiet nature. What makes
it even better is that most tourists who come to Cinque Terre take the train or
the shuttle bus so that you don't have to share the train.
That said, it is still a popular spring / summer hiking destination and is perfect for beginners as the walks are relatively easy and difficult. I recommend visiting some of the more mountainous villages and going off the beaten path for those who want a bigger challenge.
The best time is in May / June or September,
as the weather will be nice, but there will be fewer crowds and cheaper prices
in the villages. However, even if you go here during the high season, the
footpaths are a nice refuge away from the crowds where you can enjoy the views
and nature.
See the World from
Above in a Hot Air Balloon in Cappadocia, Turkey
Turkey is popular for many things, from Istanbul, its vibrant
city, to the great Turkish food. The other thing some people don't know about
is that hot air balloon riding is a massive and famous thing to do here. If you
go to Cappadocia and ride a hot air balloon, the best sunrise you’ll ever see
in your life could be seen.
Thanks to the natural " fair chimneys, " the view is
truly exceptional and unique in Cappadocia. Hot air balloons start only at
sunrise for safety reasons and a tour through your hotel or agency is
recommended. You are taken early in the morning for a wonderful Turkish
breakfast. Once the tour company receives a sign from the government officials
who handle the weather report, you will be driven to the start - up area. as
Cappadocia is very small. From there, you will see how the setup is happening.
You
will be instructed on the do's and don't during the flight when the balloon is
fully ready. In the basket there will be about 15 - 20 people, divided into
four corners. You can book a more expensive one if you prefer fewer people in
the basket. Remember to load your camera, bring scarves and a light jacket,
because it can be chilly up there even in summer.
This activity is not only popular throughout
the summer, but throughout the year. In Turkey, there are other things to do,
such as visiting Pamukalle for an " ice walk" experience on all-
natural mineral terraces that can also be experienced at any time of the year.
Swim and Try
Different Water Sports in Comino’s Blue Lagoon, Malta
A day trip to the Blue Lagoon of Malta is so relaxing and
magical that I returned to the country twice on two separate trips. While the
whole chain of Malta's islands is lovely and full of charming beaches, the Blue
Lagoon is a very special place. Sandwiched between Comino Island and the
Cominotto rock crop, the Blue Lagoon is filled with crystal clear turquoise
waters.
Only one person lives officially on the island of Comino, and
all the others who sleep on the island stay at the hotel. Comino is therefore
practically empty in the morning, fills up with beach goers who arrive on ferry
throughout the day and empties out again at night as the last ferry leaves. I
love to arrive on the first boat and stay until the last one and witness the
full cycle of the days of the island.
While you are there, you can participate in
fun water sports or relax at the beach. You can rent a beach umbrella and deck
chair and buy your food (and wine) when you arrive, or you can go BYO and take
your own blanket, go up to the rocks and have a picnic.
Kayak around the
Costa Brava, Spain
On the Mediterranean coast of Northern Spain, the Costa Brava has
crystal clear waters and wild, rough coastline that provide a great backdrop
for kayaking. The summer weather is also perfect, with endless sunshine but a
constant breeze, making it the ultimate summer destination for many Barcelona
residents.
Costa Brava’s many hidden coves are perfect destinations or pit
stops for a kayaking trip, some of them can in fact only be reached from the
sea, so your paddling efforts will be rewarded with quiet beaches without
crowds.
Guided trips are available with several providers, and some are
getting extra creative with combo trips like kayaking bird watching, or
kayaking to a small bay where you’ll do a wine tasting on the beach!
If you’re looking for a multi activity holiday, this can also be
combined perfectly with a day or up to week-long hike on the Camí de Ronda which
goes right along the coast line on the Costa Brava all the way up to France
with incredible views along the way.
Cycle the
Vineyards and Pause for a bit of Wine Tasting in Croatia
Wine tourism on the idyllic Adriatic island of Korčula, home to
some of Croatia's most unusual wines and beautiful scenery, is becoming a hot
activity. The rolling vineyards surrounding the picturesque Lumbarda make it an
excellent cycling area. Bike tours are one of the most popular ways to taste
the interesting wines of the island.
You will notice the wine association when you set foot on the
island; all hawking tours of a variety with wine shops and local tour agencies.
And the indigenous grape is the reason. Korčula is the only place where this
unique grape produces wine, which is feminine and must be pollinated by another
variety.
The vineyards here are family affairs and yield is small so
enjoy your glass of grk whilst you can as it doesn’t usually travel far. Plavac
mali and pošip usually complete the tasting line-up.
Bikes
are widely available to rent by the hour, half day or day from tour agencies or
specialists; staff will give you a map and point you in the right direction.
Guided tours are available too if you’d rather someone else took the lead.
But it's a relaxed cycle to Lumbarda, where
you'll find a few wineries and a sandy beach where you can swim and snooze the
wine before you get back. There are many quiet back lanes and off- road trails
for the more adventurous cyclist around the island.
Cruise the Danube
on a Luxury River Cruise Ship all across Europe
The Danube River has become an important part of Europe 's
tourism industry, covering 2,860 km through 10 countries. Recreation and cruises
on the river can be booked for as little as 75 minutes, a full day, a week or
more through many cruise liners offering accommodation, food and guided tours.
Vienna offers a 75-minute Danube trip to the inner canal of the
Danube through the city centre. In summer, a full-day cruise from Vienna to
many ports in Austria can cool you while enjoying the smaller towns, some wines
known in the regions where the ship would stop, and you can dine from breakfast
to an authentic Austrian food buffet, afternoon teas and dinner on board. If
you have more days to spend, cruises pass through 3, 4 or more countries within
8 to 23 days. For example, the Passau-Budapest cruise passes through Passau,
Germany to Linz, Austria then stops in Krems, Vienna and finally in Bratislava,
Slovakia and finally in Budapest, Hungary. The longer cruises would be
Amsterdam, the Netherlands and many beautiful ports in Germany.
If you love the sun, and the calm that the blueness of the water
brings, going on a Danube cruise is a joyful experience and also convenient way
to travel. If you opt for longer days, you’ll wake up every morning in a new,
curious place.
